If you agree that they should be given a voice please elaborate a little , as I feel that all Nazis which is effectivly what these groups are should be hung out to dry in the muddle of the Ghetto in Africa

Everyone is entitled to freedom of speech. Freedom to speak or believe in only what is popular, considered acceptable, considered tolerant, considered politically correct, etc. is no freedom at all. There is nothing in our Constitution or Bill of Rights (I'm talking about America's) that protects you from being offended, and until recently there were few (if not, none) in any other countries. Plus, if those two groups are offensive, can we also silence the Black Panther party, Mecha, La Raza, and other groups of the same sort? Or, are we only going to focus on White pride and White power groups? Will the Catholic Church priests be executed for saying that abortion is wrong and a sin, engaging in homosexual acts is wrong and a sin, etc.? Regardless of what you think of those two groups, people have to realize that any hate speech laws will make everyone prisoners of their own minds; any actions deemed "too extreme" or "too intolerant" will get you in serious trouble.

WHATS WRONG WITH THE BNP, ONLY MUSLIMS SPOUT OFF OVER FREEDOM OF SPEECH, WHEN THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE A POLITICAL STATEMENT OVER THERE ATTIRE{ EVERYONE TUNE INTO CHANNEL 4, AND AT THREE O.CLOCK SWITCH TO THE QUEENS SPEECH,, BNP IS GETTING STRONG, I AM A 52 YEAR OLD GRANNY, NOT SOME MINDLESS BRIAN,, YOU SAID IT.. AND I AM A MEMBER OF THE BNP. ACTUALLY , THINKING OF STANDING AS A CANDIDATE, SO YES WE DO HAVE A PLACE IN 07. DO WE WANT LIVERPOOL TO END UP LIKE BRADFORD/LONDON ETC.. NO WE DON'T, AND IF 52 YEAR OLD GRANNY STANDS FOR ELECTON, NOT A RACIST, COS I AM MARRIED TO AN INDIAN, NOR IGNORANT COS I USE SPELL CHECK, THEN YES 07 MIGHT SEE A CHANGE

Its part of the cost of having free speech.
Personally I'd rahter not have the BNP or whoever around, however if they do exist then I'd far rather have them out in the open esposuing their hate, than in the dark, hidden away passing their message of hate unchallenged.

if they are out in the open then its easier to see their lies, their fallacious arguments, its easy to expose them for what they are. It enables people to see that their analysis, their approach is wrong and unaaceptable. In exactly the same way as jihadi, communist, maoist or what ever other ists' there are out there.

legislating a political party our of existence doesn't work as longs as the opinions and beliefs behind that party exist. Political parties are about getting power, building a consensus building a core of belief. they dont work in a vacuum. despite what modern day Germans or modern histroians may think the Nazis came to power in Germany by providing am alternative and an explanation of how Germany could rise after its humiliation in and after the second world war. The Nazis exploited the feeling of hurt, the feeling of injustice amongst the Germans and rose on the back of that into power.

What ever else is done we must never let any political movement based on hatred, self pity and blame into power.

The BNP are a legitimate political party that has won seats in local elections. We may not like it, but it's called freedom of speech.

EDIT: They should be given a voice because they are, whether you like it or not, reflecting a small section of society. Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of a free society and democratic process is having to share the platform with people whose views you don't agree with. It is the electorate's responsibility to make sure they cannot hold any positions of power.

yuckler: I agree. The vast majority of people couldn't tell you much about the BNP beyond what the media tells them and they do have policies that extend beyond national identity issues. I'm still not a fan of them but I do agree. Go visit the website at least.

They should not be "given" a voice, but in the USA they have the First Amendment right to think and say whatever they believe, just as those who oppose them have the right to do so, nonviolently. Racism will always exist in a free society, but will hopefully such groups will continue to have little influence. We should not try to ban people from thinking or saying what they have a right to say.

Yes, of course there is a "place" for them, That place is the deepest hole in the ground that can be found.

Seriously, however, in a democracy we must allow ALL views and opinions, even those we find personally repugnant. It is the mark of a mature and well-developed society not to ban what it finds itelf in disagreement with.

The point is not to pretend they dont exist by outlawing them, but to fight and defeat such people with logic and compassion, things they dont comprehend and therefore fear.

Any party based on purely racist agendas should have no place in a fair society. I know that sounds like double standards but a party that actively seeks division in our society and actively seeks to place one set of people above another set on account of their race, colour, class or religion is not acceptable.

I do realise that Britain has a huge problem now with foreign people coming in and working here but they were all but invited by a succession of British governments. If you want to blame anyone blame them. But supporting a party with similarities to the German Nationalist Party of the 1930s and 40s is not the answer.

because we have freedom of speech we will always get groups of people we don't agree with as in this case but what is the alternative ans you always have the right to disagree with the policies of these people too you have a brain and are allowed to use it

I think they should have DNA tests to check out where their blood stock is descended from, before getting membership. Eg I thought I was descended from Yorkshire miners, but I am half Scottish Highlands hill farmer, three eighths North East coast fisherman and one eighth Central London bus driver.
