I was at Fry's Electronics yesterday...the salesman told me that if I wanted 1 yr no interest I needed to apply for a credit card, that it was nothing to be approved and I could take my purchase home. I applied. It had a "glich" and he said that 99% of the time that happens and I would get my card (which I now did not need) in about 2 wks. Another associate told me that this was standard practice. Now I have a card coming I do not need, which affects my credit whether I use it or not, and I made my purchase at Best Buy which was wonderful. Just wondered how many people fall for this scam, especially at Christmas and how many would like to know DO NOT patronize stores with this practice as they MAKE money off your getting the card whether you USE IT OR NOT and it DOES stay with your credit no matter what.

It does affect your credit because even if you use it and pay off balances the amount of cards you hold takes away points from your score. It is fraud when you are presented with one scenario ie: do this and it will go through for one yr no interest and then immediately after stating that 99% of the time you do not get the card for 2-3 wks. I would have been ok with being just turned down but delayed so that you would make the purchase you need at the time and THEN later the card would come is ridiculous. Talked to the store, tried to retrieve the application, guess what they said they cannot do it, sorry but FRAUD and trying to inform people especially with Christmas here and this happening all over. Left mssg. for Randy Fry's customer service, guess what NO RESPONSE.

For George, yes they are supposed to ask just like any business but misleading or in this case withholding information or not telling the truth about the application process. Best Buy sold me a card in total honesty. Fry's sales person did not and Fry's is not willing to do anything about it. Best Buy or anywhere else is where I will shop from now on.

First of all, you applied and you signed your name. There was no form of fraud committed. Secondly, having this charge account is a GOOD thing because it will help RAISE your credit score. If you charge small items every month and then pay them off when the bill comes, you will build a track record of responsible credit usage.

Well, the sale people are supposed to ask the customers to open the store credit accounts. It's not a fraud !!!
