It's not easy or everyone would have a million dollars but there are enough millionaires out there to prove that it can be done. As mentioned previously the best way to have money to save and/or invest is by living below your means. If your dad wants a million dollar home, he's not going to have a million dollars in an account. He cannot have both. The reason alot of people don't have a million dollars is because they have a million excuses. People can get rich even later in life by setting a goal and taking the steps to achieve it. Again, it's not easy. Sometimes it's as simple as setting up a 401K plan and for others it's opening a business or patenting an idea or being discovered for some form of talent. People who sit back and wish for $1 million without doing anything to achieve it is simply wasting their breath and our time but if he's truly serious, he'll get to the library to get books on how others have made millions. There are plenty of case stories out there: Suze Orman, David Bach, Donald Trump, Dave Ramsey have all written books that will get your dad to start thinking. And ya know, it's not too soon for YOU to start doing something to make your own million. Grab a book or two at the library. The future will be here before you know it.

There was a fun bumper sticker many years ago, it showed a hobo (we call them homeless today) who said, "I'd give a thousand dollars to be one of those millionaires." Of course, that would be a pretty good rate of return, even if you had a thousand.

So what do you have? And how much time to do it in? It is all a factor of something being worked at and with over time. In the recent Readers Digest is a story of the guy who started the Subway sandwich shop chain. He started with a friend and a couple thousand dollars. They did everything wrong, but for them it just happened to work. (I like the part about how the first store was failing, so they figured if they opened another store it would look like a going concern and they would get more business. It sounds stupid, but for them it worked)

What do you have? What can you do? How hard do you intend to try? Are you prepared to accept the risk that you might fail? Good luck.

TRY THE 10 STEP PROCESS 1>tell people you have made a million dollars though you haven't, 2>make up some crazy way to do it though you didn't do it (like if you bought a ton of real estate for zero dollars, or started a home based business that do for only several hours a day and make a fortune from), 3>get out the old camcorder and tape a bunch of mumbo jumbo hype and put together a package of fake testimonials that allude to an instant motherlode of financial windfalls without lifting a finger 4>shoot staged videos showing smiling slobs for the first time ever wearing outer garments out in front of movie star mansions holding Champange glasses instead of Blatz beer cans and describing their workless successes derived from the materials they purchased from you (that they can't read because they never went to school) and ad lipping on about their swollen bursting bank accounts generated from the idiot proof $500 starter kit (plus shipping and handling) and subsequent refresher kit packages you susposably sold them, 5>buy every late night TV slot available on every channel in America and in other highly developed nations, offering every greedy TV station the opportunity to run them at a commission of 50% of you receipts in lieu of up front cash payments, 6>advertise your false system exclusively on late night shows to coach potatoes and insomiacs, 7>be sure to include a notice in the smallest extinct chisled 2000 BC scribble you can find detailing the seperate shipping and handling charge they must pay which will equal the amount it would cost to ship a nucuelar warhead by barge from Knoxville to Vera Cruz, 8>sit back and watch the postman painfully lug the assorted array of stuffed canvas letter bags up to your doorstep 9>then just rake in the all moola, BUT, AND THIS IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE 10>keep your car motor running at all times, and never have your ticket to.Terra del Fuego outside of your grasp. Your dad will be proud of you. Tell the Shmoo's I said "hi".

Well there are many books, all of which have numerous falsehoods. However there are other ideas.
1. The Lotto-Strike it Rich
2. Create a product so desirable it makes millions
3. Play the stock market
4. Invent something revolutionary
5. Rob a bank
6. Start a .com website and make millions in ads

Hope it helps, and if you get to the millions, remember who gave you the idea!

This is a very vague question so my answer is "that depends". Do you want to do it legally? If so take these steps to achieve your goal within your lifetime.

1) Get a job if you don't already have one.
2) Live within your means- pretending like your rich doesn't hurt anyone but yourself in the long run.
3) Invest your money consistantly over time (dollar cost averaging).
4) Educate yourself- read finacial literature, get a personal finance magazine subscription, take a class. The more you learn about money and finance the more you realize how silly it is to waste it on little things like $4 Starbuck's coffee every day.

I'll tell you an *easy* way to make a million dollars, since if you had any amazing inventions or rare skills you probably woudn't be asking here.

a) sell some of your organs on the black market.
b) offer to have your skin tatooed with advertising in exchange for money. A woman made $20,000 on ebay that way, but she undersold herself and only had her forehead tatooed. You could probably make $100,000 if you tatoo your entire body and then capitalise on the publicity.
c) invest the money in properties in Bulgaria. Once Bulgaria joins the EU property prices will rise.

Go to Las Vegas with 25k, play craps or black jack, win once, bet it all, win again, then walk out and have a drink to celebrate being a millionaire. Risk is only 25k, and chance of winning twice is relatively good.
