Why does my firewall block me from the internet?

My Sustem Suite 6 firewall does not allow me to access the Yahoo sign-on screen. It also does not allow me to sign on to aol.

It's not blocking your from the Internet, it has only closed up some ports that are used by either the TCP or UDP traffic from those instant messaging programs. Firewalls are designed by default to block well known security threats. You need to find out what ports and or services that those programs use and then enable those settings on your firewall.
