For the younger boys, I recommend books like Thomas the Tank Engine, Dora, Blues Clues, Scooby Doo, etc.
For a 3rd and 4th Grader, I would try some of the "Klutz" books which have projects, tricks and activities to do. Nancy Drew books would also be great for a 4th grade girl as there is whole series of them and I remember reading most of them when I was in 4th and 5th grade.
Borders and Barnes and Nobles are great places to go, both having a super Bargain section.
Good luck in your venture to find fun reading material....and good for you for wanting to give them something other than video games and electronics! The mind is a terrible thing to waste!

For the older two:
Tales of A Fourth Grade Nothing (very funny book, especially if there's a younger brother), Charlotte's Web, The Giver, Ghosts I Have Been, The Sea of Trolls, The Wreckers, The Onts (Secrets of Dripping Fang Series #1), Beyond the Deepwoods (Edge Chronicles Book 1)
The Little ones:
probably something with pictures of construction vehicles or big truck or farm tractors or farm animals or airplanes

For the 3rd and 4th Grader -- the Series of Unfortunate Events books ... the K and Pre-K Children will mostly like (more often than not) coloring books and a set of crayons (especially ones that revolve around a theme -- like Harry Potter, Eragon, or other popular series).

the 3rd or 4th grader may enjoy either the Magic Tree House Series or Animal Ark Series - my kids loved them. My 3rd grade son is into the Dragon Ball Z comic books - sure, it's cartoons but he is still reading which is the main point.
