Are there abandoned mailboxes? This might be the issue why I sent a payment in a envelope to someone on Monday and the seller says he still hasn't receieved it. He told me there can be abandoned mailboxes where the mail rarely gets picked up by the postmen. Is that true?

Check the mailbox where you deposited your letter, there should be a sticker on there that says which days and times the mail is picked up from that particular box.

They are not abandoned. City carriers use them. When routes change, that the boxes are no longer needed, the USPS removes them. Ask your post office where to get a retired one.
