I am going to try to be NICE but it will be a trial of patience on my part.
The simple answer is that OUR oil reserves are not sufficient to fill our demands for fossil fuels no matter what you pay at the pump.
I would guess that if we took your suggestion personal cars would be outlawed so that industry and defense could continue.
I will turn your question around. What happens if we REALLY ANGER OPEC and they CUT US OFF?
The same thing happens and then we become "Their BI%^H".
It is called DIPLOMACY and using the power that we have to benefit the most people.

What country are you living in. Thanks to OPEC, the US $ is the standard for all oil deals in the world. This setup has kept the US$ artificially high. Should OPEC decide to go with the Euro or yen, the US$ will collapse.Simultaneously the bottom will fall out of the US economy. You may want to rethink your stupid suggestion. It wouldn't be the Arabs that would be starving.

It is clear you do not have a clue about what you ask.
Where would the oil come from that you rely on every day to drive and stay warm? You and the rest of the millions of US citizens.
Our economy would collapse within a very short period of time.
Don't believe it. Take another look at all the trucks on the road. They aren't there just to give you fits. They move this country. And that is just one facet of the problem.

We do not belong to OPEC.
In fact, Arabs have been too nice to us all these years. Can you imagine where we would be if they cut off our oil?
In fact, we should encourage Arabs to reduce production continuously till we get the sense that Europeans have--drive smaller, more efficient cars, and build a viable mass transportation system.

Let them starve? Seriously, are you kidding me? They have more money than we could ever DREAM of! Nothing we do is going to hurt them. Quite the opposite my naive young friend. It would only bite us in the a$s.

they will sell to the other hundreds of nations that need oil, it will have no effect on them, but will starve us of oil, forcing us to drill in anwr and the coastlines, and libs dont like either of those prospects.

they probably have more money in reserve to buy food than we do oil in reserve...
