...serious adult actor roles or escaped lunatic kiddie roles?

For me, he's definitely one of those stars whom I don't particularly like in his usual persona, but who proves himself a brilliant actor when given a good director and a meaty dramatic role.

Not into him when he's being crazy and funny, but in films like Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting or One Hour Photo, he really proves he can act.

Bit like Jim Carrey. Can't stand the moron, and then he goes and gives a brilliant performance like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Go figure.

D'you know I have the utmost respect for Robin as an actor. And that's from a man who has made 130 films in 50 years. He can make you laugh and cry in the same film, ie Garp, Patch Adams, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Fisher King. Good Morning Vietnam. He can be an outright loony look at all his films aimed at the younger audience. But the main new string to his bow that shows his versatility is that he now plays emotionally disturbed characters and villains ie One Hour Photo and Insomnia and is totally believable in the roles. Look at all the class films in his catalogue. HE IS A TRUE STAR OF THE SCREEN ! A man for all seasons.

I myself think that he has the capability of playing both, although I like his performances as a lunatic/ or an idiot...something funny like the movie "man of the year"

find him quite good, would not say he was a kiddies role actor, he was good in "Good morning Vietnam" "good will hunting" to name but 2 none kiddies movies but did well in all his movies! does seem to star in family type movies, but a good actor anyway!
Has more in the bank than me!

I would say that he is great at both, but my preference is Stand-Up Comedian. Have you seen him live? It's 2.5 hours of Laughter! If he comes on tour again, I would highly recommed it!
