Anyway, I would probably go to a dollar store, pick out a basket and then find four other items to fill it with, if $5 is your limit.

Try re-gifting! Unless your host specifies a new gift, the white elephant gift can be a second-hand gift, something you received that someone else would appreciate more. Be sure the giver of your re-gifted item is not a guest at the party, or that the person would not mind that you re-gifted the item. A great white elephant gift can become the highlight of the party. A white elephant is something unusually ugly, or bazaar. Try a resale store. If you're young (under 30?) think of something that an older family member would give you. Like a picture frame with ballerinas on it, or a hat and glue on fuzzy pom poms. The dollar store has some really ugly statues, think unicorns, clowns, not Christmas items. I once received a fake plastic cell phone, a Popsicle stick bird house. How about something with seashells glued on or "golden" macaroni.

If I understand a white elephant party its suppossed to be a gift you have at your house...not somethng you go out & buy...so it could be a candle you haven't used, some lotion or shower gel with a new bath sponge you may have or how about pasta and sause with a kitchen towel set
