That's a tough one, but I am in the "industry" and have been for about 7 years now. Average...probably around 45K the tough thing is most salespeople lie so you will not get a straight answer from them. I am in the RV industry and sales people are around the 75 to 100K range. It's a much better market because it's more selective. Don't listen to Car salesmen ask to see there W2 before you believe them.

I wouldn't listen to anyone that warns you about Car Salespeople lying. Look at being a Car Sales Consultant like a lawyer or police officer, it's a tough job and not everyone likes you, but someone has to do it. Occasionally, they are even swayed and happy to have you around.

Your pay varies like any commission based pay structure, although I believe that will be changing in the years to come to a salary form because of consumer response. However, it depends on the individuals experience, the area, the brand, the number of sales people and good ol' supply and demand. I sold import cars for two years in the Metro Detroit area with no training in a flooded market and made 44K a year with perks of driving a new car for 200 a month including insurance. I would advise you to check the Dept. of Labor website, which will have data for your area. Ultimately, the longer you are in the business, the more referrals, the better your name the more money you make. It becomes your own business if you stay with it long enough but the hours are horrible. Unlike RVs and other luxury items that people hold off on when times are tough, everyone needs cars.

Good Luck to you

if the car salesperson is hard working plus a bit of luck,he could easily earn more or less $40K in a yr (allowances + commissions + bonuses + tips). But i don't like his style of talking,he always likes to boost.so u must always take caution on him n read the forms carefully before u pen it down.

best wishes.
