If it's something that you can come up with an excuse of where it went, I would exchange it. If it's something big that they would notice, I would keep it. I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings. That's the first question you should ask before deciding if you should exchange it.

dont let your friend know you dont like it. be nice about it and when you get home, decide if you can really do something with it. i think its fine to exchange it so long your friend gives you a gift receipt. them giving you a gift receipt means they know that there is a likely chance you might be returning it.
if not, you can always donate it and pretend you brought the gift over to your parents house.

If it was a cheap gift, I would just keep it. But if it was a pricey gift I would get an exchange...

Hold on to it for a long time and then if you ever get to go to a "White Elephant Gift Exchange" you can unload it there.

if you have the privilege of exchanging, by all means exchange it and get something that you can use, instead of keeping the gift and wasting it.

no, tell her you really like the present. Keep the present and prove to her u like the present (even though you don't) It can make her feel reeeeeally bad if she found out you exchanged it. That would be rude. By her something she likes then too.

Sure! You can exchange it. That's the reason there are gift receipts.

you could exchange it later and not tell her. but if you feel guilty.. just put it away somewhere. and if she one day finds it.. just be like "i was trying to keep it someplace safe." =]
