The US is acting in the role that Britain had 200 years ago as the dominant power in the world. Before them Romans, Mongols or Greeks.

Is it like Darwins theory of survival of of the fittest and the strong ruling the weak. We can complain but it's allways going to happen. In 50 years time we might be dominated by the Chinese or Indians....opinions please.

Yes - ideally two, so they cancel each other out!

We had an odd sort of security in the old USA v USSR days, because neither superpower was strong enough to force outright victory in a war and both sides knew it - therefore their best inrerests were served by not having a war.

Since the fall of the USSR and the assumption of unilateral superpower status by the USA, things have been rocky... fortunately, as Nature abhors a vacuum, the Chinese are making great strides and are already able to challenge the Yanks successfully in many areas, ie over North Korea.

With a bit of luck, we should soon again have two roughly equal superpowers locked in stalemate, and the brief era of American sole dominance (aka the Pig's Ear Years for all the good they managed) will be over: there will be an effective check on American world dominance.

Just so long as the USA doesn't go to war with China (and both superpowers will see it as in their best interests that militant Islam be curbed - it's a destabilizing presence on China's western borders) then we should all be OK.

But it's a big if - the likely flashpoints for Sino-American war being Taiwan, North Korea or possibly Japan. Then who knows?

It took a destructive five-year war with Germany (WW1) to leave the British Empire a hollow bankrupted shell dependent on American finance. Could an all-out prolonged war with China do a similar wrecking job on the USA's claim to world leadership?

I agree with you to some extent. However, to make a country dominant requires its trading powers and thus capital wealth to be great. And who will trade with these countries? The rest of the rich nations such as the US and the UK. One cannot exist without the other. Thus, the idea of dominant power diminishes over time, nowadays, we are too reliant on each other. Don't forget that age old deterant that stops any single country getting too big for its boots - the Nuclear Bomb

human beings fail to comprehend the US continues to be the third best u . s . a . contained in the international. the US government isnt in simple terms going to stand by using and permit its status to be taken over. As undesirable as that sounds, why have we long gone contained in the direction of the super lengths we would desire to ascertain good alliances. the yank debt isn't just about significant as different international places debt in evaluation to there GDP. no longer something comes on the fringe of the US militia, even China's militia does not even evaluate to the yank militia. we've the flexibility to impact our intrests out of the country, and could continuously proceed to apply that skill. Secondly the ecu has approximately a hundred Million greater human beings yet in evaluation to the US our protection funds continues to be just about two times the size and human beings are nevertheless bringing in greater money. the US will continuously be a super participant contained in the international, Russia has long undergone huge changes and nevertheless has an dazzling volume of skill. we are the present ideal canines, with out type of opposition. we can combat to stay in that place.

Yes they are...They police the world and believe they can tell people how to run their country. They own land that doesn't belong to them e.g Hawaii and even America itself belongs to the Red Indians so...America is acting as the dominant world power but in my opinion they shouldn't....Why? They are too power hungry, like the British and everyone else bt this is 21st Century and they shouldn't want to take over everyone.

Historically, you are right. Problem now is that technology/communications etc. just make it so much bigger and more dangerous. The world is full, and there is nowhere to move to - always an option in the past. The USA exists because of this population movement.

No, no...even how great their powers are or even how great their ideologies are...these things came from human and humans are imperfect. Even if one stands out it can never be successful. Yes it can help the world a better place but it's NOT absolute.
