i know the notes i just dont get the chrods or tabs. on tabs what if there is an x over the string? also if there is only one over the whole measure do you play it the whole time?

If there is an x over a string, it means don't play that string when you play the chord. And yes, if there is one note over a measure it means hold it the whole time.

oooook first off, i think you should get at least 2 to 3 guitar lessons just so you can get all your questions answered.

X usually meants to hit the string while covering it(muting it) or don't hit it at all.

one over the whole measure?? that might mean a lot of things... sometimes the tabs have legends at the end. It could mean a beat or what finger you should pluck with or even what finger you should use to make the chord...etc.

Find a book on Amazon...
an x means you don't play that string...
It means that is the root note of the measure...

if an x over strings you don't play that string.if you learn your chords,the notes to the song are withing the area of the chord position.I video tapped a lesson once & sent it to my son when he was in the Air force.I can't read music,I play by ear.

add just to let you know, if you see all x's in a tab to be played at once (no numbers, like this - xxxxxx) that means to mute it with your left hand
