I'm sorry to tell you this but the market for baseball cards, and all sports cards, has completely gone to pot.
My dad had a collection starting in the '60s that is just incredible and at it's highest was worth over $25,000 and it was supposed to be a part of his retirement.
Well about three years ago when he had the value of his cards appraised the total value was down to under $3,000. Now he is holding out, hoping that if he hangs onto them for another 10 years things will rebound.
It's unfortunate that in the '90s the card market exploded and the big three or four card companies were joined by dozens of smaller companies, thus oversaturating the market and devaluing all other cards. Suddenly there weren't just three Barry Bonds cards a year there were 15, plus all of the inserts and specialty cards the number jumped to 30 or 40 a year and it hurt all cards.
In addition, eBay and other online auction sites made it incredibly easy for collectors to find the cards they were looking for. Instead of searching numerous card shows and trade shows to find one card, a collector could sit down at his/her computer and suddenly there were a dozen of them all waiting to be purchased.
I hope it turns out better for you than it did for my dad.
Good luck!

You can take them to a few local card shops, but chances are they will only be interested in the top stars. I'd get each to bid on what they'd give you for your whole lot. If you have the time you could make more money by listing them yourself for sale on Ebay. You could sell them grouped by player or maybe by team. How many cards do you have?

unless you have cards dating from the late 60's and before, don't hold your breath waiting on someone to pluck your cherry. The baseball card wave of the 80's and 90's has fallen thru and now it is hard to sell the cards for more than whatever your may have paid.
