She lives in Canada, so I rarely see her, but we e-mail all the time and when she visits its all about how much better she is doing than me.

It started when her ex-boy friend told her he fancied me-nothing happened but she blamed me for the break up!

your friend sounds like she has self esteam issues. Try to flatter and encourage her... by playing the sympathy card you undercut her chance to one-up you!

If your friend believes in herself more, she wont feel the need to cut you down.

Friends are not always for life, people change, we move on and there's nothing to say you HAVE to keep in contact with this woman especially when she lives so far from you.

Why not put all your thoughts and feelings into an email adding at the bottom that you wish to end your friendship because of them.

Either you will get an appology or you wont, and there lies the answer to if this person wants to keep you as a friend.

She may be depressed and taking it out on those you care about seems the norm.

If it a worthwhile friendship you need to talk to her - get on that phone, or skype her. Or write an email explaining how you feel, save it before you send it and re read the next day before sending.

If you dont really care for the friendship then write her off, its not worth having friends like this. Change your email address.

There are good friends out there

Think before you answer anything she asks you and dont give her anything to go on then try turning the tables if she says something great about herself. When the penny finally drops and she ask you why you think you are better than her explain what you were doing and why!

in my opinion you are both not as keen as each you think on your friendship with one another. You seem to be trying to justify your self and at the same time criticise her

Tell her openly and firmly that you do not like this kind of behaviour and that it is endangering your relationship. On the other hand why bother it is very flattering.

tell her you love your friendship to her far more than some boyfriend who might happen to fancy you, nothing would ever come between you and her EVER

talk to her
think, is she a real friend? even if you like her, don't let her do it. and don't try and top her. talk to her, or get someone like a teacher or parent to. not a friend. everybody don't need to know about this.

drop her like a bomb you don't need someone that makes you feel bad, or if she is jealous just tell her to get over herself. and move on.
