I think the NSA (National Security Agency) which is one of the US top spy agencies and was the one stopped from doing wire tapping would be a cool topic to do http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Security_Agency

You don't need to turn into a karl Rove so do something kind of lighthearted like maybe a look at some of the obscure agencies and committees that there are, who runs them, and how they are funded. Don't do something like 9/11 or foreign policy, chances are that the teacher will have seen and heard it all before and you won't impress him.

write on the homeless people.You can go on the streets and find a homeless person and i just bet that they have a good story about how the gov put that person on the street.The sad thing is he or she is probably telling you the truth .
