MTV is the best thing to ever happen to the music business
and
MTV is the worst thing to ever happen to music itself.

It's not just MTVs fault. Its the peoples fault too.

I know that they don't play much music anymore, but I'm talking about the music that they DO play.

I also know that it's been that way for a long time, I'm asking today because I can. If we had Yahoo Answers back in the 80's I would have mentioned it then

I didn't know MTV played music anymore. I thought they stopped that in the early 90's.

I would agree that they are killing the music, but the people who watch MTV definately have some impact on that. Definately MTV has made a music industry that the majority of people listen to. Bands want to be more popular/better paid etc.. so they create music that not only will be accepted by MTV fans but have some roots in their original genre. So basically yeah they are killing it.

Where have you been?
MTV has been killing music since before you could talk, and it does not look like that is going to change any time soon.

I remember when MTV started and they actually played music videos ALL the time! Whoever started this other stuff they do now is who ruined it.

MTV's been killing music since 1980-something. Remember that song "Pimp my Ride Killed the Radio Star" ? That should have clued us in!

video killed the radio stars

damn straight, I've been saying that for years and everyone thinks I'm nuts.

To much emphasis is on looks and not on music quality. Sure they real nice nice to look at but i want to hear somebody with a decent freakin voice and a little originality.

This has been happening for years. I totally agree with you. If it wasn't for MTV, alot of bands would not be where they are today. Great question btw.

Have you been in suspended animation over the past quarter century?

Maybe your comment would've had some clout in 1982 or so, but just briefly.

Is your next question going to be about the governor of California, Ronald Reagan?
