at what age or weight do we turn our baby's car seat around to face us?

A reccomendation should be in your carseat's user guide. There are different height and weight regulations for the different kind's of seats.
Recommendations for whether a child's feet touch the back seat of the car have changed, but most people don't know this. It is ok for your child's feet to touch the back seat of the car when the seat is rear facing; you don't have to turn the seat to be front-facing when the feet touch the seat: what is more important in deciding when to switch is the weight/height specifications for your specific seat. Once your child exceeds either the height or weight specs for your seat, you turn it around.

These children should be not only at least 1 year old AND at least 20 pounds, but actually should be around 30-35 pounds or tall enough so that their heads are within 1 inch of the top of their convertible seats. This means children should not turn forward-facing until they outgrow their convertible seat's rear-facing height and/or weight limits.

Rear facing is the safest way to travel. That being said most infants and parents hate it. Babies need to face the rear until they are at least one years old. Partly because their heads are so big! If turned around too early an accident could stretch their immature spine resulting in death. If your baby is big you may have to switch car seats to keep them rear facing this long.

i'm constructive the advice and regulations variety in each usa. In Australia I went to a authorities run company referred to as KidSafe who put in my vehicle seat (Or really I put in it at the same time as receiving a lesson - it became large, for a small fee I grew to grow to be a specialist vehicle sear installer LoL) I requested about the burden and age criteria for switching over, because I knew my niece, who became 14 months previous on the time, actually weighed 7kg. (completely healthful female, only tiny human being genes!) and were frontwards dealing with for your time. the female informed me that 9kg no remember how previous the newborn - so technically my niece ought to nonetheless be the front innovations dealing with. The regulation although is somewhat different, and in the journey that your newborn is the front wards dealing with and they are older then 6 months, then it is okay. So what the experts propose, and what's the regulation are very contradicting. i'd choose the experts - in the journey that your infant is sufficiently small, why would not you want them to be rearwards dealing with as long as conceivable? this is obviously the most secure way for a snug infant to go back and forth!!! xx

The general recommendation is 20lbs. If they reach 20lbs before a year old, you should wait until they're a year. So, if you have a 23 pound 10 month child, they do not meet the guideline to be turned foward.

At one year and 20lbs it's the parents dicretion. You could have had a sick child that didn't develope the proper neck strenght etc....

My son had to be turned at 8 months because he was way over 20 pounds and was way too tall to be facing backwards, and I took my car seat and my child up to the police station and they are the ones that told me I needed to have him in a front facing car seat even though he was not 12 months becuase he was way too tall to be facing backwards and in cases like that it could cause serious injuries to the legs and plevis if in an accident. There are exceptions people, maybe we need to brush up on our carseat facts.

Very good question - I've heard 20 lbs and 12 months old.

I have been wondering the same thing because my 10 month old now weighs 20 lbs...so I'm wondering if I have to wait until she turns 1.

Thanks for asking this question. I hope you get some good responses.

In general, the law says a year AND twenty pounds.

To keep them safe, it is best to face rear as long as possible. Some seats will rearface until 30/35 pounds.

when the child is at least 20 lbs AND 1 year of age...

both must be met before the carseat can be turned around (sorry if you have a chubby 9 month old, still cant turn it!!!)

You are supposed to wait until they are 1 year old but my daughter would scream and cry and carry on so I had to turn her carseat around when she was 10 months old and it seemed to solve her problem because she could see where mommy and daddy were
