My electric guitar is buzzing on the higher frets, so I've decided to tighten the truss rod to correct all the fuzz. But, I've heard that if you over-tighten the truss rod and you can snap your guitar neck--I don't want that to happen. Is there any way for me to determine the stress limit of the truss rod save having my electric snap in half?

Have your girlfriend fiddle with your truss rod until you determine the stress limit.

You would have to really force it to break anything. You can probably make the adjustment you need with very little force if the strings are loose.
