First, A Christmas Carol isn't by anyone CLOSE to Mark Twain. Try Charles Dickens. But I would recommend Nelson Mandela. Writing about social activists and people who made changes like that always makes the teacher grade easier on you.

Oprah Winfrey is a great example of someone who made a lot of positive changes to her life and now gives millions away to charity. Or Angelina Jolie--she was pretty wild and crazy and now she does tons of humanitarian work for refugees. A good example of someone who shows a negative example is Paris Hilton or Britney Spears or Nicole Richie or Lindsey Lohan. These girls are all about material possessions, partying, sleeping with each other's boyfriends, using drugs, and generally not really contributing anything positive to society. I think Britney may have a performing arts camp, but it's mostly a tax write-off and she stopped visiting it or being personnally involved with it.

This may be a little left field, but try the life of the Buddha. His story was that he was a pampered prince until his adult days. It was only when he became aware of human suffering did he turn away from his hedonistic life-style and dedicate his life to contemplation on how the cycle of suffering can be broken.

My first thought was for somebody like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, but she was never a sinner to begin with.
