ok, well one time in this college class with only five students, we were given a brief lesson plan assignment to find a game to aid in teaching spelling. I came up with one and the others did not and even admitted yo the professor that they did not do it. Well she did not like mine and so forth. She basically told me that she was disappointed and the others agreed that it stunk. I went to see her after class and she gave me a bad grade or so she implied on that one. Well, I made the dignified argument that I was the only one who attempted it and that I had what I could show at the time. She then agreed and said I could do another one the next day. So, I won by standing up for myself in this ridiculous situation and ended up really showing her and my classmates how to do a really good lesson. Fck her and people like that.

People say offhand remarks all the time about groups of which I am a part. It happens every day. Racism, religious intolerance, political intolerance, whatever. I don't react because I don't want to upset the peace. And while my not reacting doesn't improve anything, it also doesn't exacerbate the problem. Whenever I react, I just get upset and the other person gets upset and nothing gets solved. Same thing happens when I don't react, except no one gets emotional. I'm not sure if that's the sort of answer you're looking for - I was a little vauge - but it seems to happen pretty often so I mentioned it.
