By Beauty, I mean the girl Bellinda in Italo Calvino's version, I just need a basic answer for my Italian exam tomorrow. Thanks all! :D

Hoo-boy! You can find anything on the Net. I'd never have come up with THIS on my own (but you know - I rather like it.)

"Beauty can symbolize Jesus Christ, based on the fact
that she transformed the Beast to a “New Being” in the presence of her love. In other words, the love of Beauty made the animal Beast evolve into a real human being. Love is the divine gift from God that leads human beings to the living existence from solitary existence. Love is the power of salvation that awakes human life from eternal death."

Personally, I think Beauty represents salvation - at least for the Beast - and I suppose a good case could be made for Beauty symbolizing Christ, the Redeemer.

Come on, you're reading Calvino... do you expect you'll get a good answer here? Perhaps it is a Rene-Thom-esque catastrophe symbol, Beauty maps onto Beauty? Mmmm...
