I didn't have alot of little things when my little one arrived...I had to run to the store for, a breast pump ( f u breast feed) baby tylonol, baby nail clippers, a baby hair brush, a bouncy seat. One quick tip that helped me out alot is, have a small basket and fill it with a few diapers, some wipes, a pair of socks, a baby washcloth, nail clippers, a medicine dropper, daiper rash ointment, lotion and stuff and haul it around the house with you. Youd be suprised how many things you think of that you need once you have baby sleeping soundly and cant move around to get it...

You shouldn't throw your own baby shower, thats considered really tacky and like you're begging for gifts. Someone else should throw you a baby shower. If its a cultural thing that your family doesn't want to do the shower, see if a friend or coworker will throw you one and then have a family shower afterwards. Also, a newborn shouldn't be around large groups of people and their germs until its 6 weeks old and has had its shots, but some cultures have the baby at its shower anyway. Just make sure everyone washes their hands before going near you or the baby. A simple thing even like the cold sore virus on someone's hands can kill a newborn (look it up).

I would have loved it if someone had given me a basket of "medical" things that babies need...Infant Tylenol, Gripe Water, Salinex, Oval, Zincofax, Pedialyte, Vapour bath etc. Basically the things that a baby needs when they are sick, but a new parent doesn't really know they need to have handy.

It would have helped me out cause being a new mom, I wasn't sure what products to buy. It would have saved my poor husband from running out at 1pm to get fever medicine when the baby got sick.

Even today I'm still discovering new things that my baby needs...like I just learned about Pedialyte for diarreah. I wish someone had told me about these things ahead of time so I could have stocked up my medicine cabinet before she got sick!

I wish I had gotten more clothes in bigger sizes, especially 6-9 months. They get big sooooo quick and everyone buys mostly 0-3 month sized clothes. Also, pack and plays are great, and so are pampers swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive baby wipes.

casseroles in the freezer. Also lots of receiving blankets, baby gowns, onesies, and those one piece baby garments that cover legs and feet and snap up the front. baby bath tub. Breast pads. baby shampoo. thermometer, baby tylenol. That's about all you need for a while (in addition to the diapers you mentioned.)

milocon drops are great for gas pains
there is a natural teething tablet you can get at Walmart that is good when they start teething.
Also Fisher Price has a pad that you can put in the carseat that vibrates.
These suggestions come from things that moms have used in my day care

a tummy time playmat...

i got one of these for my shower, but i have been to several where thet were not given....not many people know the significance of these wonderful mats!!!!! i have a friend whos daughter had to wear one of those helmets to help shape her head because she never had tummy time!!!!! the helmet cost $3,000 and she only wore it for 12 weeks!!!!!! they could have saved all that money if they had only taken the time to buy a $25 mat!!!!

if you havent registered for one...do it...and if you dont get one for your shower, use a gift card to get one.....i highly reccomend it!!!!

i will forever be giving tummy time playmat at EVERY shower i attend now!
