OK, I know this is strange. I seem to stumble into accidental themes when reading. Last year, I seemed to read a lot of stuff based in Japan. This year I have discovered two very enjoyable authors with nothing in common beyond their first name - Jim (Butcher and Thompson). Can anyone recommend any other authors called Jim whose books they've enjoyed? I will accept James.
To help narrow it down, I like detective novels and historical stuff and occasionally fantasy and horror. I draw the line at sci-fi and slush.

Honestly, i always give thumbs up especially to a very good answers. If only i could give five thumbs up i will give it to that person so long as it is deserving and due to him. It seems some are really jealous or don't want to accept that there are really good answers better than yours. So a thumbs up must be due to that person. I don't have any problem with that. Some do not even care whether it is good or bad. What a person knows is to give all answers a thumbs down to appear that his own person is the best. I have experienced that in my question. The last person who answered makes the thumbs down given the fact you monitor your answers to your question. I believe what we need is to be responsible and act decency on this site. We must be matured enough to follow the community guidelines. We must be intelligent enough to act what is proper for the benefit of a good community site. But it seems this could not be attained since we have all the freedom to do what we want. Unless we report the violations committed. It is high time for us to act together. I agree with you my friend. Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

How about a humorous book? I'm a librarian and I couldn't stop laughing when I read Jim Belushi's REAL MEN DON'T APOLOGIZE. This is his comical take on life and love; he does get serious through a portion of it - he goes on to talk about his brother dying and trying to make it as an actor too. Men and women seem to find this book enjoyable.

James Joyce, Dubliners (short stories, very readable, set in olden days, revealing of the times), James Joyce, 'Finnegans Wake', do not buy it, you can see an online version via my blog (antiparanoid.blogspot.com), does Henry James count? & what about Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad... or Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis?
