In the Fatboy Slim song Weapon of Choice, there's a line that goes :"Walk without rhythm/So you wont attract the worm". I was just wondering if this had anything to do with the Frank Herbert novels in which natives of the planet Dune have to develop an irregular walking style as regular sound patterns can be heard by giant worms under the surface of the planet. The lyrics seem to fit this fairly well.

you're right

In the song "Weapon of Choice" by Fatboy Slim, the lyrics "If you walk without rhythm, it won't attract the worm", is a reference to the arythmic walking pattern of the Fremen, because steady rhythms or vibrations attract the giant sandworms to the source of the rhythm, IE: a thumper.

It could well be a metaphor from Dune as it does fit.

Probably it also means if one is going to be subversive, not to draw attention of the authorities by behaving in a regular pattern.

Thanks for reminding me of Dune. Its been years since I read it.

Yes you must be right although I confess I hadn't noticed it before despite being a fan of Frank Herbert.
