Rick children here are taught three languages here. Native language Irish, English and French. Then secondary school you can also do German or Italian.

I think it depends on the environment or opportunities for learning.
In here majority children can speak 2 languages, children are able to learn 2 languages from young age.

In fact, research shows that it is easier for children to learn another language compare to an adult. (textbook)

I am being taught 2 languages. One is English and one is Chinese.

I take English and Spanish. Spanish is really causing a decline in my English spelling. Another foreign language would only be detrimental to my understanding of Spanish.

where i live, kids are taught 2 languages. you need to know english and they are taught french in school here

Most kids have enough trouble learning their own language let alone having to pick up anymore! I they really want to learn any others they can borrow from the library.

maybe the powers that be feel that children need to learn how to speak and properly spell one language first. (aren't is correct ; arnt is not)
