4 years ago I had it rebuilt, When I parked it a year ago , it ran strong. A couple months ago, I drove it around the block and it seemed to slip. I figured it was because I changed the motor, and fliud leaked out. ANyways , I changed the filter and fliud, nothing visually wrong , and it still wont go into gear. I got it hot, reved it up and still nothing . Can a tranny get "gummed up " just from sitting ? or am I the victim of a timely trans failure?

I suspect hardened seal(s). use a trans conditioner like TRANS-X
It may cure the problem for cheap $$$

Yes a tranny can get gummed up from sitting too long....There are check balls in the valve body one or some of them may be stuck in place and not allowing pressure to flow....also check to see if the vaccum modulator is working properly no vaccum can also make it not shift or go into gear on this type of tranny..... other than that check with a transmission tech at a service shop maybe he/she could give you a few more ideas....good luck

Trans failure. Just sitting won't do anything like that. If there is nothing moving, and no temperature changes, there is no reason for the oil to "gum" up. It is a petroleum based lubricant.
It sounds like either the accumulator or the pump failed, or the seal at the pump failed and is allowing air in, which will compress causing loss of engagement.

Good Luck and Merry Christmas

You can get a transmission pressure test gauge and a TH-400 shop manual. There are pressure test ports on the side of the tranny for diagnosis. You'll be able to diagnose front pump failure, clutch packs, etc.
