You don't always need to wear layers when you are sick. Especially if you have a fever. You want the heat to be able to escape. It won't escape and will raise your temp. if you have too many clothes on. So it just all depends on what you are sick with. But you shouldn't wear too much with a fever. Wear light weight clothing.

Yes, when you have a fever over 101 you only want a sheet and a thin blanket, because extra covers can actually elevate your temperature higher. It also prevents your body from transferring heat away from the skin. Even if patient is cold, it will pass once fever rises and plateaus.

that's why you layer clothing, as you get hotter, you can remove some of them
