Honest. Preferably in a tactful way, but honesty is much more important. It's the only way I ever learn if I need to change something.

I try to be honest and tactful if possible, but I tend not to ask a question unless I want an honest answer.

I'm more honest than tactful.
A close friend got her hair cut real short. This gal is 5'10", big boned, and her hair was SOOOOOO short. She asked if I liked it. I told her she looked like Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons. Not the lease bit tactful, but she said she appreciated it cos no one else had been honest with her.
I want that same, sometimes brutal, honesty. Why ask the question if you dont want/can't handle the truth?

Honest and tactful if I'm honest with you. Hope that makes sense.

They are not mutually exclusive. If you are honest about something, but say it in the right way, that is both tactful and honest.
