i just wanna watch a simple dvd movie "A Christmas Story" on my hp pavillion zv6000 but it keeps skipping why? my older brother has a cheap *** computer and it plays just fine without skipping how do i fix my computer?? i jsut wana watch a dvd on it its made for it?
how do i clean it?? or install new software

Maybe you should just clean off the disk.. or blow in the space where the DVD is inserted.

after you insert the disk, try copying the data to your c drive and playing it from there. If that doesnt work (or if the disk is write protected), try cleaning the disk. What also may be wrong is that you may have a slower DVD drive than your brother, ora he simply has a better brand/model, etc. Keep in mind that although the computer in general may be crap, not everything in it has to be. My computer at home tops out at about 800kb/s when downloading, but the old p3's at school have gotten as high as 5mb/s or over 5000kb/s. If worst comes to worst, upgrade the decoder like the other guy said,

Most likely it is the DVD decoding software you're using that is causing the problem. (all DVD players require an decoder)

Try installing whichever decoder your brother is using.
You could also take a look at Nvidia's decoder here:

is your dvd scratched? if it is it will cause it to skip.
