Depends on how you look at it. It doesn't matter what the stores try to do if you have the right idea. The stores are never going to stop taking advantage of the fact that this is a gift giving holiday. We just have to remember the real reason for it.

Only if you go shopping, shopping and do more shopping.
It is a personal choice how you celebrate and what you do.
There are always meaningful things to involve yourself in. The local library needs volunteers to read christmas stories at various shopping centers, Help in the efforts of a local food distribution center, adopt a family (who may have tragic circumstances) and provide gifts for the children, meals on wheels recipients would love to see a fresh face with a smile and holiday cheer, the list goes on and on and on.
It still is "Merry Christmas" ( not "Merry Clearance") ;D

I think it seems that way but really isn't. It has been bad for as long as I can remember. Adverts ought to read:
"Final Chance to completely Ar*se your loved ones with our overly priced, cheaply made junk imported just for Christmas sales.
40% off already discounted prices. Mandrake's Boot Sale Rejects. First come first screwed
Once supplies are gone we will be relieved!"
Well there's my tuppence. It is like an inflatable Father Christmas...something is missing.
That Cheeky Lad strikes again.

Christmas never was Jesus' birthday, he was most likely born in the spring, when the sheep are giving birth. Christmas is adopted from the old Roman winter solstice celebrations, so that pagans forced to convert under constantine could continue their seasonal customs under a different label. This is why most of the christian customs are pagan in origin.

What Christmas is for you every year is entirely up to YOU. You don't have to jump on the band wagon and make the commercialization part the most important part just because everybody else does.

It might not be the real day of the birth of Jesus but it is not pagan, as the Roman Empire changed it to the celebration of the birth of Christ our savior. Christmas shouldn't be all bout sales and gifts thou I agree.

True but hopefully Christians who attend church faithfully celebrate Xmas as it is meant to be celebrated. No one knows when Christ was born but 12/25 was chosen because pagans who worshiped their god so that they would convert to Christianity since they didn't want to give up their festivities on the 25th.

Very true. In fact the Bible makes no reference to celebrating the biirthday of Jesus except to commemorate His death rather than His birthday.Christmas day is a manmade event.

Thanks to the non Christian retail stores (like Worst Buy), they just want money money money. Then they sell JUNK to the customers, won't even honor ANY return policies and go out of business and then spring up as a 'new' store. Remember Sun TV and appliances? They probably used to be best buy.
