This is a great question I always wondered what that pain was the only way I could describe it was as if someone stuck a knife inside my cervix.
I had the proof of this at my last sono with baby #4, he kicked and I felt that pain the sono tech told me he had just kicked me in the cervix
so no worries sorry your baby has to be so mean but it happens.

I would call your OB-gyn or nurse-midwife tonight (call their on call answering service) and if the pains are really bad than I would go to the ER tonight. You will have pain or discomfort feelings when pregnant as baby is growing and your body is preparing for childbirth but not shooting pains near your cervix. Is best just to call and to get checked out.

I'd get it checked out. I had those pains a week or so before I gave birth and when i went in they told me that the bag of water was buldging and I was going to have the baby soon.
Sure enough I did. She was a wee bit early, but is fine.
I'd call your dr but if the pain is too much to bear I'd go in to l&d to be safe.
And NO they are not braxton hicks. Braxton hicks are mainly in your abdomen when it gets tight as a bowling ball and then loosens.

I am 35 weeks also and i have the same thing. Its the baby. I got checked up for it and my doctor said its the baby hitting a nerve. Its not braxton hicks.....good god. Those are contractions not shooting pains in your vagina.

If they dont stop, which mine did. Then I would see the doc.
