Whenever I get to the screen asking me if I see video in the background, it's pitch black. When I turn the TiVo off, I see a picture just fine. The cables are connected fine, and I just can't figure out what is wrong. Any suggestions? Your help is much appreciated, and points to anyone who can get this working!!!
TY

People who claim a PC with video capture are teh same as
a tivo are clueless as to what a TIVO is and does.

Tivo buffers live video, has a channel guide, supports
season passes, wishlists, etc.

None of which a PC with video capture card does.

So get a clue what a Tivo really is and does before
\you make baseless statements.

Now as to your question, we need to know your actual
setup.

Are youusing a series 2 tivo? Are you using the tuner in the tivo, or a cable box to change channels.

The setup you refer to is a double check to make sure
the tivo sees the proper channel.

I have had TIVO for years and thoroughly enjoy it. You may have tried their website already, but if not, go to the link below and check each of the troubleshooting tips. I never had a problem getting the setup to work, so sorry I can't answer from experience.

For top rate channels, you in many situations would desire to connect the cable from the wall outlet to the cable field (the single exhibiting channel numbers in its front panel, no longer the cable modem). you desire to confirm which you will watch the top rate channels with out connecting the tivo first by making use of installation this connection: Wall outlet --> cable field --> television in case you are able to watch HBO this way, then attempt connecting your tivo between the output of the cable field and the television like this: Wall outlet --> cable field --> Tivo --> television then you certainly can set up tivo to enable the HBO channels by making use of going to "Messages and Settings" menu -> Channel checklist -> decide on the HBO channels. A cable "modem" is used for hooking as much as the pc for internet get admission to and it in many situations won't be able to decrypt top rate channels. desire this facilitates!

a 29 dollar video capture card can do everything tivo can and doesn't have a monthly rate, plus you can burn your files to dvd or cd or ipod or mem stick. quit while you're ahead.
