Actually, the author was 15, self published it, then had it picked by Knopf when he was 19. Anyone notice the Star Wars and LOTR connections?

i noticed a few Wheel of Time comparisons too when i read the first book. i didn't particularly care for the book itself...not only was it obvious that a kid wrote it, it really didn't provide anything new to the genre. and i'm also disappointed that this movie was made. there are plenty of other (and better) fantasy novels and series which could have been made into movies before this one. however all the studio execs care about is money, and this is the path of least resistance to the pot of gold, i suppose.

Well, considering the book was written by the author when he was TWELVE years old, and it was good enough that his parents mortgaged their home and went into major debt to publish it...and NOW people thought it was good enough to make it into a movie...I'd guess it's probably pretty darn good.
