i am adding this question for my 10 yr old daughter who is not old enough to register and she has completely flumoxed me with it

Hi. The mountain tops at the equator have the coldest temperature. I hope this helps. (10 years old but a great question!)
Edit. I found an inactive volcano in Ecuador, Chimborazo, that is the farthest point on the Earth's surface from the Earth's center. It is always snow covered and is over 20,500 feet tall, so your final answer is "below freezing". : http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?s=Chimborazo&gwp=16

Well considering that the equator line is an imaginary line I'll let you figure it out. Unless of course you have to post a question about how to determine the temperature of an imaginary line...
