He is on Cingular and I'm upgrading from a piece of junk and I want him to have access to email, the web and text messaging - but still want a good phone experience. Anyone have any ideas?

Blackjack sucks battery. The keypad is quite small. If you get him the Blackjack get him a bluetooth keyboard too. Don't let him text while driving. I've got a Blackjack and it's a nice platform but the keys are rather small. The speed is pretty good as long as I'm in a 3G area. It will take a little getting used to working around the websites with crosshairs instead of a real mouse. Think about the Nokia 8525 too. It's just like the 8125 but works on the 3G system too.
