I would imagine families resulted from the evolution of intelligence. For example, a family of cavemen and women did not call each other brother, sister, father, mother, uncle, aunt, etc. So families I would say would have started from the first uses of identifying siblings and relatives. Possibly 1000 B.C.

Do you mean when did we start using family names?
Families as in loose associations of related individuals have been around for a long time - many mammals recognize them, let alone all humans.
From Adam & Eve or First Woman or whoever your religion says was the first, if you are religious; sometime WAY early on the evolutionary chain of us mammals, if you are scientific.

well it depends how you look at the creation of life. if you believe in evolution, there have always been families, but they eventually evolved into human families. if you believe in the bible and adam and eve, them and their children were probably the first family. that also means that all people are one family since we are all descendants of adam and eve. i hope this is what you were looking for.
