If it's a new furnace the spaces needed around the furnace will be in the spec sheet.

But there are building codes that have to be met.

If you are looking for a general idea as to what you can do.
In general you need space around it to service it & it has to be away from combustible material.

I may work out better to put the furnace where ever it is best & pipe the heat to where you want it.

gas furnaces are set by code from floor to ceiling .check with the city office on codes and a certified installer has to put it in.You can get a permit,but has to be inspected prior to using it.
