Hi heather b !!!

I haven't done it but it came to mind. Why don't you try rubbing news paper very gently, until they get the look you want.

I love to do all this kinds of stuff. If is art count me in!!!
I hope it works, and I seriously think it will!!! Make sure the paint is completely dry.
GOD BLESS YOU

paint it any way you have in mind and then use an umber wash, or rub (acrylic or oil) into the surface, and then clean it up a bit (the umber), or just any colour wash or striae
another way is to crackle them (crackle paint) done with painting a base coat and allowing it to dry, then applying crackle medium and allowing it to set (instructions on can) then painting a different color over top (or you can use same color, and rub the umber over it lightly to catch in the cracks, doesn't have to be umber, either...just what i use.
the fresco is done with a broken colour glaze...colour washes, layered to give depth

off the point, but a cool finishes would be a special metal paint, and then apply patinas to it... looks sooo cool.
you can get the stuff from hardware and paint stores or places like http://brickintheyard.com
