First off, the lyrics are simply someone rambling on and on about all of the goodies/ material goods they want. Then comes the misplaced music. The lyrics sound upbeat, but then you have this goofy, almost evil sounding music. It sounds dark. Nothing wrong with dark sounding music, but the lyrics and the song don't go together well at all. And the music itself doesn't flow well. Poorly written music. There is no distinct chorus. It sounds like one long poor verse. I don't know how it became popular. I think it found its way into "The Sound Of Music" movie. And now idiots apply it to Christmas. Whoever wrote this deserves a punch in the mouth. He is probably dead anyways.

I agree completely! In 4th grade we had to sing this song for chorus and it was so annoying. It got stuck in my head all the time. That was about 8 years ago and I still remember all the words.

you obviously dont know much about song structure, or you would admire the craftsmanship of that song. remember. its to be heard and appreciated within the context of the movie--not to stand alone. (i agree it doesnt hold up well as a seperate entity) but by no means is it a badly written piece of music.it contains the phrases: "snowflakes .....on my nose and eyelashes" ; "warm woolen mittens" ; "brown paper packages tied up with strings". this is the reason why its considered to be a winter/xmas song. though maybe not popular by todays standards, all the music for this movie is brilliant.

I love that song! It really makes you feel like a "kid" again! It also reminds you that when things get tough try to remember the things that make you happy to get through it. You are interpreting the lyrics as just mere words rather than a deeper meaning applicable to life.

The only good version of that song is the Michael Jackson parody.

Still a standard. I have Coltrane's and Grant Green's versions and I must disagree with you.
