If you are done with the washcloth, and hopefully the peri area is the last thing you washed, then I would just drop it on the floor or put it in the dirty linen bag I brought in their room with me.

You should have a small bag open on the night stand.Do not put a dirty wash cloth on the bedside table or dresser. The bacteria will transfer to the area and when the pt or nurse touches the area the bacteria is spread.Just think about how long it will be before housekeeping cleans the area.Another idea is to put it in the chux or reuseable pad and wrap it into it.It will keep the washcloth from touching the pt.

If you are done with the Peri care, then place the wash cloth back in the basin, and the basin on the counter/sink.
Wash your hands.
Change your gloves, and finish your care.
Wash your hands.
Put new gloves on.
Then wash out the basin, and put the wash cloth in the dirty linen bag/basket.
Wash your hands.

The best way to handle this is to spread a clean dry towel in the area that you have your essentials for bathing....then when you need to, you can place clean or dirty wash cloth there till you are finished...Remember: start with the face, ears, neck, chest, arms, underarms. Change wash cloths, then abdomen, arms, back and shoulders, legs, then feet. Change wash cloth and then do Peri care washing from front to back. Use separate cloth to rinse.......Hope this helps you...It's always good to take five wash cloths and three towels to each session, just in case.....

Shouldn't you already know this answer? I mean aren't you following state guidelines? How can you not know this?
You can NOT put it back on a surface like the table and or the nightstand. You can put it on a clean small towel until you can put it in the laundry bag. But I still would NOT put the clean towel on those hard surfaces either, just on the edge of the bed.
