The gay bashers and hateful. However, many opponents are sincere in their misguided religous beliefs and oppose it for this reason. Other people, not religious, have some idea of "traditonal values" which must be upheld and oppose it on this grounds. There are some you have an idea, totally misproven by all research, that there must be a man and woman couple inorder for kids to turn out right.
What these all have in common is they are ignornig two things. In reality all a marriage is is a civil union--a type of partnership which the parties own property together and usually have kids. Surpise, this relationship is quite extensive in the United States. It is absurd not to recognize something that exists--even if they may not approvie of it.
Unlike some advocates I do not care if it is called "marriage" or "civil unions"--so long as there are equal rights. If it makes everyone feel better to play word games that is fine.
And for the religious people. I respect your opinions and values. And no one is suggesting, even if it could be done, that your church be forced to perform same sex marriage. We are only talking about the civil/legal relationship.

I don't oppose gay marriage. I think it's stupid to try and go out of your way to stop others from being happy. It has absolutely no affect on me whatsoever if a gay couple wants to marry. I can't understand why straight people feel the need to try so hard to stop gay marriages. All I can figure is that they really are bitter and unaccepting to anyone who isn't like them. It's ignorance, and THAT is what should be stopped.

Why do all these people who oppose GLBTQI's and gay marriage post here in the LGBT forum????
I support same-sex marriage 100%. It is no one's business but my own whom I sleep with and whom I want to spend the rest of my life with.
If people want to take advice from a nearly 2,000 year old peace of literature, that is their problem; not mine.

I also don't mind either way. Love is love. I mean, god has created us to love not only ourselves, but to love one another. Even if the bible doesn't approve, it doesn't matter. Bush should really change the law as far as gay marriage goes. it shouldn't be illegal.

lol it makes no sense to oppose gay marriage if you're straight cause tell me... how does that affect you? exactly. it doesn't affect you AT ALL. so just let gay people get married... god.
how are you gonna let a book tell you what to do? is the bible that powerful? if god told you that wearing clothes was a sin, would you walk on the streets naked? I wouldn't.
so god, let gay people get married.

small-minded bigots who think they are superior and can dictate who other people should love. as long as they are 2 consenting, unrelated adults, why should it matter what their gender/race/religion or cultural background is? don't we have bigger issues to worry about in this country? like the war? the economy? like how we have a president who's trying to impose HIS religious beliefs upon the laws of the land? this is unconstitutional! thank God he can't be re-elected....we can't get him out soon enough! impeach now!

I often wonder what gives people the belief that they have the right to oppose anything that doesn't affect them in the least.....
Straight people should have no opinion about gay marriage....
Men should have no opinion about abortion.....
But, not only do people oppose things, they feel that it is their responsibility to impose their views upon everyone.
This is a very delusional state of mind.
