Its software that somewhat like cookies keeps record of your Computers activities/installed software and reports these to the Company issuing the spyware.

It is basically a little program that devious people and/or companies put on your computer to spy on what you do and send that information back to them or their own website.

An example is advertisers that track what you click on and send you ads that might interest you - while you may like this as a feature it is actually spyware.

A more devious example is someone sending you a free CD that tracks your bank account or other website logins/passwords and sends THAT back to their site. This is why spyware is evil.

little bits of code left by websites u visit that talk back to their home base about where u surf and wat u look at ... they arnt much of a threat but lots of it can slow ur pc down ... there are worse versions of spyware like keyloggers and trojans that can actually send passwords and things u type back to the creator ...

Great answers. How DARE they? I didn't even notice the icon, but it was messing me up big time until a friend noticed it, asked why I had it, & I said "Have WHAT?" He zapped it.

It's those little miscreants who easily fool you into believing that your PC is 'infected" etc, and ask you to download software to overcome this...they are then totally chuffed, and continue their devious ways with your machine...
