If you are Black or Latino/a, and your criminal record was the reason for the employer’s decision, you may have been discriminated against. If so: File complaints with: 1. The CT Commission on Human Rights & Opportunities (CHRO) 1-800-477-5737 and 2. the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) 1-800-669-4000. You only have 180 days for a CHRO and 300 days with the EEOC from the date the employer discriminated against you to file a complaint. You can file complaints without a lawyer.

Girlfriend, as a former department of corrections worker, I have seen your problem time and time again, you are almost darned if you do and darned if you dont. A misdemeanor for some petty crime probably would not have cause to alarm an employer, but if it were for stealing, and how long ago was it. That might have future bearing on your job retention, IF they hire you and do not know. If they ask tell the straight truth, if they don't, keep it too yourself. As they say in prison, Don't ask, Don't tell!

In most states, if they ask, you have to say. No question, no answer. Don't volunteer the information but don't lie either. A false statement on a job application could be used for dismissal.

I honestly think that you should. I mean that if you be up front and tell them, Its possible that they may not find it a problem and let it go. But If you dont mention it and your employer happens to run a background check on you, you could lose your job

I got that question on an application and it totally made me mad. I thought they were only allowed to ask about felonies. However, I think they are allowed its just not very common. If you lie they can fire you though. If you ask me its total BS! Who cares about misdimeanors anyway? Please!

NO. If they ask, I wouldn't lie, but it's not their business until they make it their business.
