I had a mouse once and she was a lot of fun. Hamsters are nice too, but I always seemed to buy pregnant ones, even when the shopkeeper said they were male. I recommend getting a mouse. They're really cute and you can play with them. I would let my mouse run up and down my arms and sit on my head. They need a cage and a water bottle. A wheel is also good so they can play on it. You'll need to clean the cage at least every other day so it doesn't stink.
SiInce you asked about rabbits, they are not fun to play with. My neighbors had rabbits and they're mean little things that bite (the rabbits, not my neighbors). I still love rabbits, but I would never get one as a pet.

I reckon your best choice would be guinea pig I have two guinea pigs and a rabbit and I love them both dearly but I like my guinea pigs better with constant holding and phrase they can become great pets and you don't have to vaccinate them and they live for some time. The thing with rabbits is they kick, nip and thump and they need to be vaccinated against some diases but in Australia you can't get them against Mixomytossis whhich will kill them so they may not live long and can get fly blown which is when flys lay eggs in the poo near the bottom then the maggets kill them =( now I feel a bit bad about saying bad things about rabbits so heres some good things:
They are soft
They come in many different breeds
They can be toilet trained.
If you get a guinea pig I recomend two because they need company or get a guinea pig and rabbit. But they can live good without another guinea pig just you'll have to spend more time with them and if you get two get the same gender good luck =)

Rabbits are nice. The are quiet, furry, cute and rather low maintenance. Rats are nice too, but some of your friends will think you are nuts. Sounds like you haven't had a pet before so one with a short life expectancy might be a good first choice, just in case. Rats live to about 4.

Ha, ducks are cute, but i would have no idea how to properly care for one. But i suggest that you get a guinea pig or a pet rat. They are both very nice pets that each have their own individual personalities. I have owned 5 guinea pigs, and they were WONDERFUL. I have never owned a rat myself, but i know a lot of people who have, and they also have very nice personalities. Both are social animals. Just be sure to do research on your pet before you buy it. I work at a vet clinic and we see a lot of small animals who are sick do to bad husbandry (wrong kind of bedding, wrong kind of food, ect. ) I have also known some very nice bunnies. And they are super cute.
Pets i would not recommend are hamsters and gerbils. I never found them much fun. They are very small and fragile, and you can't hold them a lot because most of them bite, and that is just my experience. I know there are some nice ones, i have just not met a nice one.
Good luck on finding your new friend.

I would suggest a teddy bear hamster. I have one myself. they only need their cage cleaned once a week. FYI they don't eat meat and don't feed them oats because it will tear their stomach up.If u get a hamster get one that is bigger than the others because they are more calm and don't bite as much.
another pet I would suggest is a chinchilla. they cost a lot of money but they are cute ( i think ). you can go to a local pet store and look them up though.

Go to a reputable pet store, walk around and wait until one of the precious animals PICKS YOU!
It will happen, you will know it in your heart, and that animal will bond with you forever.
So many species are great, go find a great pet shoppe and let the animal do the rest.
You will know in your heart when it is right.
Blessings this Christmas,

An animal that will suit you. If you are ready to take care of it, if it will make your life okay and not stressful than take something which will make you not have regret having bought. A rabbit is an excellent idea.
