Since this is supposed to be the season of giving, I thought I would ask what one act you have done for someone else in need (emotionally, financially, whatever). I realize many people give their lives to others, parents of handicapped children, foster parents, etc., but I want to know what those not faced with day to day selflessness have done for someone else. I would be grateful if you would also mention your political affilitation, but it is not necessary.

I am going to assume you don't mean as a line of work, rather as something that just springs from the heart. I'm also going to leave family out of the picture because I help them on a daily basis, buying what they need when they can't afford to do it themselves. I actually have a great deal of fun with random acts of kindness, which seems to be what you are asking about. I have shoveled the driveway of an elderly neighbor after a snowstorm, I leave coupons that I don't use for others in the grocery store (especially those for baby products) and for prescriptions at the pharmacy. I donate all my blankets and provide food to the humane society. Old clothes go to the local homeless shelter. The most fun I've ever had though was once when I saw a mother and her kids at the mall and I could see that the kids were in desperate need of shoes. I purchased a $100 gift certificate from the shoe store, and followed them discreetly until I had a chance to slip the certificate (with a note from "Santa") into the diaper bag on the back of the stroller. She probably didn't find it until she was home, maybe even days later, but at least the kids had decent shoes to wear that winter.
As for political affilitation, I, like the others who have answered, am not sure why you ask either, but I'm a liberal democrat. (And I hope Hilary wins and choses Bill as vice president! :) )

Your question is a good one. I honestly can say this is somethng where I could do better in. I realize I don't do enough selfless acts.

On a side note, I'm not sure why you are asking about political affiliation, but it is GOP. I pray that Hillary doesn't become President. The women and Democrats in this country could do so much better. Could you imagine what havoc Bill Clinton will raise if he is home in the White House all day while Hillary is running the country! Somehow I can't see Bill in an apron baking cookies!

I am a hospice nurse. I care for the terminally ill on a daily basis. I care for their families also. Yes it is my job but it is much more than that. It is a blessing for me, an honor and a privilege to serve those in the last days of their life. To give them comfort and to support their families. Why my political affiliation is important I really don't know unless your goal is to assume that Democrats are more selfless etc. I am a Republican. I hope, no, I pray that I never have to utter the words President Rodham(she will change back to her maiden name mark my words).
