Gone Nutz has the right idea.
IF HE'S SENTIMENTAL, the best gift I've found for friends, family and others is photos in frames. If you or someone you know has photos of the two of you together (especially on a non-holiday day - at the park, on vacation, etc.), get one printed and put it in a little frame. It's so simple, but means more than you'd think. How would you like it? ;-) And you can redo this one. Next time, kick it up a notch. Get him a three-photo frame. The three pix can be you, him and you & him or maybe a vacation photo of you both plus two sites you visited or "that cute dog outside that one shop" or the view from your room.
The best gift I ever got was a set of juggling balls and a how-to video. What?! Now, I'm not saying HE wants one, but it was something I didn't even know I wanted to try! It may be difficult to figure out what might work for him. Does he have a hobby he doesn't do anymore? Get him something to re-spark his interest in it. Does he show interest in a friend's or relative's hobby? Wood carving is manly enough, but you might have a hard time starting him on scrapbooking or stained glass. ;-)
GET HIM SOMETHING HE WOULDN'T BUY HIMSELF is another thing Gone Nutz has right. A good pair of winter leather gloves. Guys won't spend $40 on 'em, but he'll wear 'em! A CD (maybe an autographed one from an auction site) of his favorite band or "our song" or (as a joke) that mushy song you always sing that he hates! ;-) A seat warmer that plugs into a car's lighter.
WHAT ELSE DO GUYS NEVER BUY?
A new pillow.
A decent cordless phone.
A certificate for two free snow-shovelings or lawn mowings from the neighbor kids!
A permission slip he can use to host one SuperBowl party or go to his wild friend's bachelor party, but not both! ;-)
A massage for both of you!
A weekend trip.
Cologne that turns you on!
[...something racier, which would be clearly inappropriate for Yahoo.] ;-)
Anything edible or drinkable.
IF HE NEVER WANTS TO DANCE, but likes video games, get one of the Dance Dance Revolution games (make sure to get two "dance pad" controllers if none are included). That game is great fun for the two of you together or for a casual dinner party where you can share the embarrassment. If he likes racing video games, get him a "steering wheel and pedals" controller for his system. Unless he already plays games too much! ;-P
Give him a hug too! You KNOW he'll like that! ;-)
Stay warm, in all ways!

Well guys like anything really for Christmas; you can even get him a gift card to anywhere and any guy would be happy about it. But of course since your guy seems simple and is not really materialistic then you should get him something simple. Something that he may need for work; or school or just for fun. Something he really needs or needs for a certain use for hobbies, etc. Check out this link below.. It has "guy gift" ideas... Good luck and don't stress over it... :)

I think about what whoever would want. Then go to the store, pick it out, buy it, and walk out of the store. It is usually a few days before I am giving it to the person. I will bag it if I cant get someone to wrap it for me (I TRY to wrap and its no good for anyone) I can get my entire Christmas shopping done it about 1 hour.

I've been with mine for two years, he throws out little hints.
so i bought him corny gifts like a 9" fry pan with a lid,(hard to find)
and some really heavy duty floor mats for his suv.
things he needs, and would not buy for himself.
you could always buy him a picture frame that you record your voice on, and put a nice picture of yourself in.
sounds like you have a sweetie there.
good luck!!!

Guys do not want picture frames and gift cards.
They want sports gear (try Sport Chalet or Sports Authority) and radio controlled cars (local hobby shop) and motorcycles (dirt bikes) and tools (try Pep Boys) and guns (gun shop) and food (salami, cheese, chocolate).
Good luck!
