You knid of answered your own question. If a product is VAT exempt, you should not charge Vat on it

the answer is in the question..NO. Also enquire from your local taxman as to what level of turnover you need to have before you register for vat. Ifyour margins are not great, it may not be worth the bookkeeping.

I don't believe that you do as most people would have to claim VAT back if they pay VAT on VAT exempted goods.
