Kidnapping by a terrorist organization is NEVER justified.
Nor is it justified by their own standards, seeing that the"big picture" that jD is refering to includes concessions to Lebanon and Palestine at every turn, all the while the "peaceable" Arab states break every UN sanction at break neck speed. In turn the UN blames Israel...

Two wrongs do not equal a right. There is not a single thing that either side has done that is justified. The UN should have been allowed to handle this situation.
