Two weeks ago, my 9-year-old goldfish died. It was very upsetting, but I'm ready to get some new fish.
I've got a 6-gallon tank, and I'd like to get some new, pretty fish for it. I only want freshwater fish, and preferably some that have a bit of hardiness to them. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of fish to buy/how many? Also, what should I look for when picking them out at the petstore--liveliness, etc?

A six gallon tank is pretty small and I wouldn't reccommend too many types of fish.
How about a single betta? I find they have the best personalities. Mine comes up and looks at me when I look into the tank :) You could get a few cory cats to go with him as well, and maybe a small breed of pleco, like a clown pleco, or a bristle nose pleco.

Well Guppies, Mollies, and Plattys have live babies. dont get excited they have them in numbers between 30 and 150 so unless u plan on expanding ur hobby dont get more than 1 of these. neons are cheap and pretty, tiger barbs are nice but agressive, and there are lots of other pretty freshwater fish your local pet store should be able to help u pick out the one right for u. as far as how many a good ratio is about 1 small fish per gallon or 1 large fish to two gallons

Cichlids are waaaaay to big for a 6 gallon tank.
Try some smaller fish, like tetras. I suggest glow light because they are much heartier then the over bred neon tetras and are just as pretty. you could get about 8 in a 6 gallon, and they will school together.
You could also try some guppies, probably about 4. Just make sure you get ALL male, or 3 females to 1 male, or they will kill the female and each other.

i fairly want you'll bought a photo or poster to "enliven a wall." If it has a cover, heater and tender clear out, you could keep one Betta in it, in case you do the right stumble on common strategies to strategies to perfect look after Bettas. you ought to keep 2 guppies in it, or perchance 2 Platies, yet it truly is starting up to push it. All of those want warmers and filters. make constructive you mount it securely to studs. The water on my own in this tank will weigh over 50 pounds, no longer counting the gravel, kit and tank itself. i fairly imagine you'd be more desirable ideal off with a planted tank, perchance with some shrimp.

I believe the formula is one inch of fish per gallon of water. Betas are beautiful fish but you can only have one. If you get one and want another few inches of fish, go with community fish - non-aggressive - no nipping because Betas are wimps with other fish and tend to get picked on. I'd go to the fish store, browse and read their notes regarding the temperment and size. Have fun!

I feel for you and yes I do know how you feel ...My 10 year old goldfish which had gone blind died last week.
Isn't it amazing how attached you can actually get to them.
Get another goldfish they are the easiest to take care of.
